Redesigning Google Maps and Spotify mini players with active notifications and Android Island.
Overview
Outdated mini-player interfaces and uninspired active notifications put android devices at a disadvantage compared to competitors. This project is a redesign on common mini-players, including Google Maps and Spotify, and incorporating Android Island, a new active notification display.
Current Active Notifications and Mini-players
The Problem
The active notifications for calls, mini-players for incoming calls, maps, YouTube, timers, and Bluetooth, all vary in size and location, leading to a disorganized variety trying to meet different design standards between Google, Samsung, and respective app specifications, which risks confusing the user, lowering accessibility, and creating a less than ideal brand image.
Calling: Incoming call mini-player pops out from the camera, picking up the call sets it into its active notification state.
Google Assistant vs Gemini: The original layout was kept, with the audio button removed to support automatic Gemini-live.
Maps, Spotify Dual function: Android Island can support multiple simultaneous active notifications and mini-players.
Other Functions: Bluetooth, Hotspot, and Charging.
