Overview

This project is an adjustment of the Gemini and Google Assistant experiences. Currently, Google Assistant is the most accessible software, but with Gemini taking the lead in AI experiences, as well as just being a more robust tool, we can merge the two softwares, keeping the familiar layout of Google Assistant, but replacing the styles and capabilities with Google Gemini

There are currently three ways to access Gemini: Gemini Live, the main app, and by texting Gemini through your standard messaging function. You can also access it by swiping up, but all of these options are still less accessible than holding down the home button, which is reserved for Google Assistant. The experience can improve if we kept the accessibility of Google Assistant, and replace the software with Google Gemini, this streamlines the use case, efficiency, and user flow, instead of having multiple assistants that are accessed in different ways and have different, likely confusing, interfaces.

Desktop AI use cases

Perceptions of AI are usually distorted because most users have grown familiar to accessing ChatGPT or Gemini from a desktop interface. It's important to distinguish whether there are different habits users have when using their AI on their mobile devices as compared to desktop, and design accordingly.

Mobile use cases include a lot of secretarial tasks, likely because the assistant we've grown used to over the years includes Siri, Bixby and a handful of others. In order to comfortably integrate an AI engine with older assistant models, we have to design so that users don't feel like their tools are being replaced, rather, upgraded.

This is why we moved forward with keeping the interface similar to Google Assistant, so it would be clear previous use cases would still apply here.
